School Governor: Mr Mathew Lomas

First, I’d like to say thank you to those who voted for me to be a Parent Governor at the school. I started in January and I love the role I’ve been given.

I am Buxton ‘born and bred’. I studied Business and Leisure Management at High Peak College and Sheffield Hallam University.
I then started working at Buxton Community School in 1999 as a Sports and School Lettings Manager, before becoming a Learning Support Assistant and then a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (gaining a lot of years of experience working with SEN students). I am now the Alternative Curriculum Manager for the school, which basically means that I work with some of the school’s most challenging students who find mainstream lessons difficult to access.

I have a daughter, Tilly, who is about to go into Y2 and is following in the footsteps of her grandpa Terry (who came to HHPS in the 1950s) and great grandma Isabel who attended the school back in the 1930s!!

Upon election, I became the Link Governor for the Early Years’ Foundation Stage and my ethos is that children need the best educational start they can get. I also believe that if children have fun and enjoy school then learning will come very naturally. I would love HHPS to regain the Ofsted credit that I think the children and staff deserve – and it’s this mind-set that I come to the role with.
